Loi Tai Laeng's community of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Myanmar has a population of more than 5,000 people from various ethnic minority groups, such as the Pa-Long, Pa-O, Lahu and Shan. They are under the protection of the Shan State Army.
In January 2010, we completed the construction of facilities for their secondary school students. In phase two of this project, we built a primary school with canteen, kitchen, teachers’ office and toilets. We also equipped the classrooms with furniture.
From June 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013, we are supporting the running costs, which include, salaries, maintenance, utilities, transportation and stationery for both the primary and secondary schools. The use of these funds, amounting to USD 29,897, will be closely monitored.
