Nearly 140,000 refugees from Myanmar currently live in nine official camps along the Thai-Myanmar border, of which Umpiem Mai Camp is one.

On 23rd February a fire tore through the camp, home to over 17,600 refugees. The blaze destroyed 422 shelters, home to 566 families, and damaged 351 others. An estimated 2,800 refugees have lost everything.

Most of the refugees were staying for a few weeks in emergency shelters such as tents, relatives’ homes or in community buildings.

We supported the partner organisation TBBC (The Thailand Burma Border Consortium) in their efforts to rebuild the houses of the refugees whose homes were destroyed.

We are grateful to the Fu Tak Iam Foundation Limited for their donation.
