This village cannot use the basic Burmese infrastructure, as the residents belong to the Akha ethnic minority group. Mostly unemployed and lacking in hope of a brighter future, many villagers have taken to using ampheta- mines, which are produced not far from the village. While some children were sent to Mae Sai to beg from tourists who stop over at the ‘Golden Triangle’, many others were exploited by drug lords for drug trafficking, prostitution or child labour.

We built a school to improve the material, social and spiritual quality of life of these children and educate them to take pride in themselves, their culture and customs. Childlife contributes the running costs.
